Definitions for commonly used Sofar Ocean marine weather terminology.

forecast

Refers to the output data of a computational model predicting future marine weather conditions. Sofar Ocean forecasts are global and generate predictions for several variables.

init_time

A timestamp representing the first time for which a given forecast is valid. These values are in ISO 8601 format in UTC.

hindcast

Historical forecast data that reflects the most accurate prediction Sofar Ocean generated for a given time period.

leadTimeHours

The index, relative to the init_time, of the hours represented within a given forecast.

map tile

A 256 pixel x 256 pixel PNG image that represents geographic weather data based on the defined tile name.
